Here are some references from Quran and Sunnah to relieve the believing soul being burdened by the loss of a child on earth
May Allah grant sabr and ease to our brothers and sisters – ameen
The Messenger (ﷺ) said, “Wondrous is the affair of the believer for there is good for him in every matter and this is not the case with anyone except the believer. If he is happy, then he thanks Allah and thus there is good for him, and if he is harmed, then he shows patience and thus there is good for him.“

Quran
Allah says in the Quran
- No disaster strikes except by permission of Allāh. And whoever believes in Allāh – He will guide his heart. And Allāh is Knowing of all things (Quran 64:11)
- No disaster strikes upon the earth or among yourselves except that it is in a register before We bring it into being – indeed that, for Allāh, is easy – In order that you not despair over what has eluded you and not exult [in pride] over what He has given you. And Allāh does not like everyone self-deluded and boastful (Quran 57:22-23)
- God has control of the heavens and the earth; He creates whatever He will- He grants female offspring to whoever He will, male to whoever He will, Or both male and female, and He makes whoever He will barren: He is all knowing and all powerful (Quran 42:49-50)
- God does not burden any soul with more than it can bear (Quran 2:286)
- We shall certainly test you with fear and hunger, and loss of property, lives, and crops. But [Prophet], give good news to those who are steadfast, those who say, when afflicted with a calamity,
- ‘We belong to God and to Him we shall return’
- إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّآ إِلَيْهِ رَٰجِعُونَ
- These will be given blessings and mercy from their Lord, and it is they who are rightly guided (Quran 2:155-157)
Sunnah
- Abu Hassan reported: I said to Abu Huraira, “I have two sons who died. Can you tell us something from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, to cheer up our souls after their death?” Abu Huraira said, “Yes, the Prophet (ﷺ) said: Their young are roaming about in Paradise. If one of them meets his father (or he said his parents) he would take hold of his cloth, or he said with his hand as I take hold of the hem of your cloth (with my hand). And he (the child) would not take off (his hand) from it until Allah causes his father to enter Paradise.” (muslim 2635 Grade: Sahih (authentic) according to Muslim)
- Mu’adh ibn Jabal reported: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “By the One in whose hand is my soul, the miscarried fetus will carry his mother by his umbilical cord into Paradise, if she was seeking its reward.” (ibn mājah 1609 sahih (authentic) according to Al-Albani)
- Abu Musa al-Ashari reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “When the child of a servant dies, Allah says to the angels: Have you taken the life of My servant’s child? They say yes. Allah says: Have you taken the fruit of his heart? They say yes. Allah says: What has My servant said? They say: He has praised You and said to Allah we belong and to Allah we return. Allah says: Build a house for My servant in Paradise and name it the House of Praise.” (al-Tirmidhī 1021 hasan (fair) according to Al-Tirmidhi)
- Narrated Abu Sa`id Al-Khudri and Abu Huraira: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “No fatigue, nor disease, nor sorrow, nor sadness, nor hurt, nor distress befalls a Muslim, even if it were the prick he receives from a thorn, but that Allah expiates some of his sins for that.” (bukhari 5641)
- Narrated Anas bin Malik: We went with Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) to the blacksmith Abu Saif, and he was the husband of the wet-nurse of Ibrahim (the son of the Prophet). Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) took Ibrahim and kissed him and smelled him and later we entered Abu Saif’s house and at that time Ibrahim was in his last breaths, and the eyes of Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) started shedding tears. `Abdur Rahman bin `Auf said, “O Allah’s Apostle, even you are weeping!” He said, “O Ibn `Auf, this is mercy.” Then he wept more and said, “The eyes are shedding tears and the heart is grieved, and we will not say except what pleases our Lord, O Ibrahim ! Indeed we are grieved by your separation.” (bukhari 1303)
- The Prophet (ﷺ) said in a long narration describing a dream “We set off, and we came to a verdant garden, in which were all the colors of spring, where there was a man who was so tall that I could hardly see his head in the sky. Around the man was the largest number of children I had ever seen…As for the tall man who was in the garden, that was Abraham. As for the children who were around him, these are all the children who died in a state of fitrah.” (bukhari 7047)
- Aslam ibn Salim reported: I said to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, “Who is in Paradise?” The Prophet said, “The Prophet is in Paradise, the martyrs are in Paradise, the young children who die are in Paradise, and the infant buried alive is in Paradise.” (abi dawud 2521 Sahih)
