Here you will find a summary of the quran divided into 30 parts (or 30 Juz as it is called in arabic). These are my notes based on video lectures offered by Shiekh Dr. Yasir Qadhi in Ramadan 2020

Juz 11

Suras 10. Yunus , 11. Hud

Part 10

10 Yunus

Late Makki – 109 Ayaat

  1. It mentions the people of Yunus عليه السلام. His nation believed in him.
  2. Goal is to prove (like most Makki Surahs)
    1. Tauheed
    2. Risala
    3. Qiyama (day of judgement) 
  3. Special emphasis on Risalah of Prophet ﷺ 

Beauty of Creation

  1. Aya 4 Allāh made the sun a lamp and the moon a light. Sun and moon linked with time. 
  2. Million earths can fit into sun. Speed of 250 km/s of the sun. 

Remember Allāh at All Times

  1. Remember Allāh not only in bad times but also in ease. 
  2. Aya 12 when a difficulty touches a person he starts praying to Us in every state. As soon as he is relieved man goes away as if he never called Allāh. This is how deeds of sinners appear to them. 

Characterisation of Quran – Prophet is Genuine

  1. Aya 16 If Allāh has willed I wouldn’t have recited and he wouldn’t have caused it to be revealed to you. I have lived a long time amongst you. 
  2. Prophet ﷺ is saying I did not want to do this from myself and I was amongst you before
  3. Aya 37 This Quran could never have been manufactured by anyone but Allāh. Their is no doubt it is from lord of the worlds.
  4. Aya 38 do they say Quran is fabricated. Bring one chapter like it. 
  5. Aya 57 O Mankind an advice has come that should touch the heart from your lord and a healing for what is in the hearts and a guidance and a mercy for the believers. 
  6. Aya 58 “Tell them in Allahs blessing they should rejoice it is better than all they can gather or hoard. “

Wali of Allah – Friends of Allāh

  1. Who is wali: Aya 62-63 Indeed the chosen of Allah have nothing to fear or grief. Those who believe and have taqwa. 
  2. Aya 64 For them are good tidings and happiness in dunya and akhira. This is supreme victory and great attainment. 
  3. Choosing Allāh will give you both Dunya and Akhira. It’s not a choice between two. Happiness comes from Allāh. Happiest people are those who choose Allāh. 

Story of Prophets – Which we want to Be

  1. Nuh عليه السلام no one believed and all drowned. 
  2. Musa عليه السلام some believed some did not. Disbelievers drowned and beliebers became successful. 
  3. Yunus عليه السلام his people believed and when they believed they were given blessings in Dunya and Akhira. 

Summary of Islam – Last Ayaat 104-109

  1. Ultimate Purpose of Life 104 say “I’d you are in doubt of my religion then know I shall not worship those who you worship besides Allah. I am worshipping Allah who shall cause you to die and I was commanded to be of the believers”. 
  2. Aya 105 Direct your face toward the religion, inclining to truth and never be of those who associate others with Allāh.” 
  3. Aya 106 do not invoke besides Allah that which never benefits you nor harms you, indeed if you did you would be of the wrongdoers. 
  4. Aya 107 if Allah afflicts you with calamity none can remove other than him. And if Allāh wants good to come to you none can prevent it. Allah will bless with his rahma those he chooses he is ghafoor and Rahim. 
  5. Aya 108 The truth has come from your lord and whoever accepts guidance is for his own good and whoever chooses to go astray is doing his own loss. I am not over you a manager. 
  6. Aya 109 follow what has been revealed from your lord, be patient until Allahs judgement comes. Allah  is the best of all Judges.
  7. Quran is food for our soul 

11 Hud 

Late Makki – 123 Ayaat – Revealed after Yunus

  1. Prophet ﷺ said Surah Hud made my hair white (by contemplating the Surah). (And other Surahs like it). 
  2. Some motives of Surah Yunus Tauheed, Risala and Akhira. 

Console the Prophet ﷺ with stories of prophets. 

  1. Whatever he is facing is nothing new. 
  2. Aya 12 Prophet ﷺ wants to bring a miracle and he is reminded his job is to give warning. 
  3. Purpose of stories is to strengthen Faith Aya 120 and each story we relate to you from the news of the Messengers is that by which we make firm your heart. And there has come to you in this the truth and an instruction and a reminder for the believers. 

Story of Nuh عليه السلام 

  1. Longest story of Nuh in this Surah
  2. Aya 27 people who rejected Nuh they said the followers of Nuh are lowly class. Truth and Success are not based on worldly wealth or social standing. 
  3. None can take precaution against Qadr of Allah. Son of Nuh could not escape the flood. He was a disbeliever. (Aya 42). 
  4. The flood may have been regional not global. 
  5. Aya 41 Nuh and his people praised Allah when they boarded the ship. They said bismillah. They are told to say الحَمْد لله in Surah al Muminun. When they are getting off the boat they make dua Rab allow me to disembark in a blessed way. 

Story of Hud عليه السلام 

  1. Aya 52 Hud is teaching people to seek forgiveness and repent to Allah. Allah will send a rain upon you and add strength to your strength. And do not turn away being criminals. 
  2. Saying istighfar is essential to get ease in dunya as well. Our Prophet ﷺ said it 70 times a day and he needed it least

Story of Saleh عليه السلام 

  1. Aya 62 the nation expressed their discomfort. We thought you to be a man of promise. you forbid us to worship what our fathers worshipped. And indeed we are about that to which you invite us to disquieting discomfort. 
  2. Never criticise someone for coming closer to Allāh. Of course there are some red lines of fanaticism which should not be covered. 

Ibrahim عليه السلام

  1. Aya 69 Ibrahim عليه السلام informed at age 120 that he will have have a son Ishaq and a grandson Ya’qub. Aya 71 The wife Sara laughed. 
  2. Aya 73 Angels said are you expressing amazement on the will on Allāh. 
  3. Miracles can and do happen all the time 

Story of Lut عليه السلام 

  1. Wife of Lut عليه السلام was supporting the evil people and was also punished. 
  2. Those who support evil are also part of evil. 

Story of Shua’ib عليه السلام 

  1. His people would do highway robbery and not give measure. 
  2. Aya 85 and o my people give full measure in weight in justice and do not deprive the people of their due and do not commit abuse on earth spreading corruption. 
  3. Aya 86 whatever Allāh has left for you as halal is better for you than earning haram. 
  4. Aya 88 he said O my people I am not wanting to do those things I am forbidding you to do rather I want to bring about a positive change as much as I can. 
  5. Muslims should bring positive change and be a source of good. 

Story of Musa عليه السلام 

  1. Vivid detail on how Firaun led his people in his power and will lead them eventually to Hell. 
  2. Be careful who your role model is. Your role model should lead you to paradise

Do not Support Evil – Prayers Remove Sins

  1. Aya 111 your lord repay each and everyone of them for their deeds. Allah is acquainted with what you do. 
  2. Aya 112 so be upright as you are commanded and do not go beyond bounds. He is aware of all you do. 
  3. Aya 113 Do not lean towards those who do wrong or oppress others to avoid that fire touches you and you would not have other than Allāh any protectors, then you would not be helped. 
  4. Aya 114 perform prayers two ends of the day and when night approached. Good deeds cause the bad deeds to be taken away. There is a reminder for those who remembers 
  5. Aya 115 And be patient for indeed Allāh does not allow to be lost the reward of those who do good. 
  6. Best deed to do is Salah to forgive sins
The Quran and the Sunnah are the best gifts and let the believers rejoice for having them. Nothing in the Universe is better than these two gifts of Allah.
