Quran Summary by Juz

Here you will find a summary of the quran divided into 30 parts (or 30 Juz as it is called in arabic). These are my notes based on video lectures offered by Shiekh Dr. Yasir Qadhi in Ramadan 2020

Juz 19

Suras 25. Al Furqan, 26. Ash Shu’ara 

Part 18

25 Al Furqan (Criterion)

Late Makki – 77 Ayaat – Glorification of Allāh

  1. Main themes are
    1. Glorification of Allah
    2. Affirm Prophethood
    3. Characteristics of Worshippers
  2. Criterion is a name of the Quran separates truth from falsehood. 
  3. Word Tabarak is 9 times in Quran and 3 times in this Surah. Tabarak means Allāh is exalted in every manner above creation. All good comes from Allāh with baraka. Tabarak is the source of Baraka. It is with mentioning name of Allah that something gets Baraka. 

Why People Don’t Believe

  1. The idols are themselves created. Aya 3
  2. They complain that prophets are just humans like them. They say Quran is invented. 

Prophets are Mortals

  1. Prophets go in the market, eat and drink and are mortal beings. They are human. Some are made as test for others. Be patient. Allah is ever watching. Aya 20

Fate of Disbelievers on Judgement Day

  1. Sky will be cloudy and angels will come down. Sovereignty will belong to Allāh and very difficult day for disbelievers. Aya 25-26
  2. The wrongdoer will bite his own hand woe to me I wish I had followed. Shaytaan is the one who leads astray.  Aya 27-29

Prophet ﷺ Complaint – People Abandon the Quran 

  1. Prophet ﷺ will complain that my people abandoned Quran. Aya 30
  2. Anyone who abandons the Quran or the sunnah of our Prophet ﷺ will regret on the day of judgement. 
  3. The Prophet ﷺ is our Role Model

Stories of Previous Prophets

  1. Musa, Aad, Thamud

Blessings of Allah

  1. Blessings of night and day, shade, rain, breeze. Aya 45-53
  2. He is the one that created man from fluid. He has made family both by blood and marriage. Aya 54
  3. Disbelievers don’t prostate to ar Rahman. Whoever rejects one of His names has rejected Allāh. Aya 60. This is our prostration Aya. 

Character of Believers

  1. Blessed is He who has placed constellations in the star and placed a lamp and illuminating moon. Aya 61 
  2. Night and day are alternating for whoever desires to remember or desire gratitude. Aya 62. 
  3. Aya 63 onwards
    1. Slaves of Ar Rahman who walk with humility 
    2. When ignorant address them they say “Peace”
    3. Pray the night prayer
    4. They ask for forgiveness and seek refuge from punishment
    5. They spend moderately. Neither miserly nor extravagant
    6. Do not commit shirq
    7. Do not kill without justice
    8. Stay away from adultery
    9. Who do not testify falsehood
    10. When they pass by ill speech, gossip, backbiting or immorality they pass by with dignity
    11. Reminders of Ayat they hear them and obey
    12. They do Dua to make their families coolness of eyes and example for the righteous.
    13. Example for righteous not just for average people. Imam for the Mutaqeen. 

Conclusion – Dua of Quraish 

  1. Aya 77 Say “Allāh would have no concern for you (O Quraish) were it not for the fact that you (occasionally) made Dua to Him (The punishment doesn’t come now). For you (disbelievers) have denied so your denial is going to be adherent.

Early Makki – 227 Ayaat – Stories of Prophets

  1. Ta Sin Meem Starting Aya. Shu’ara Naml and Qasas suras all start with Ta Seen. 
  2. Very rhythmic Sura. 
  3. There is one repeated after each story.  
  4. Bulk verses are stories

Story of Musa 

  1. Aya 10-68
  2. Firaun says to Musa didn’t we raise you in our place. Yet you did the deed that you did and you were from the kafireen (ungrateful). Aya 18
  3. Musa acknowledge mistake but says the favours you taunt me with are they comparable to enslavement of an entire nation. 

Strategy of Firaun 

  1. Firaun first mocked, then slandered and labelled him crazy, then he threatened jail and death. This is how Firaunic people act when truth comes to them. 

Musa Trust in Allāh 

  1. When the two groups saw each other and Musa and his followers were between the sea and Firaun army. The people said we will die now but Musa had tawakul on Allāh and he said I have my Rab and he will make a way out.  Musa was inspired to strike his staff and the sea was parted by Allāh. Musa and his followers crossed and the others drowned. Aya 61-66

Prophet Stories 

  1. Story of Ibrahim عليه السلام
    1. Ibrahim and His father and how he preached to his people. Aya 69-105
    2. Dua of Ibrahim
    3. Aya 78 onwards He who created me and therefore will guide me. He feeds me and gives me drink. When I fall sick he heals me. He will cause me to die and relive again. I hope he will forgive me. 
    4. Importance of “Qalbin Saleem” (A heart only attached to Allah and has no ill feelings for any creation of Allah) Aya 89. 
    5. How can God create and not guide us
  2. Story of Nuh عليه السلام
    1. Nuh is threatened to be stoned to death and he persevered. Aya 105-122
  3. Story of Hud عليه السلام
    1. Hud reminds the people of how his people were given blessings from Allāh with buildings and fruits and yet they were thankful.  Aya 124-140
    2. The average person in our times has much more luxuries than any humans in the past. Having air conditioner, refrigerators, flowing water, so many foods, etc etc. 
  4. Story of Saleh عليه السلام
    1. Saleh عليه السلام tells his people not to be corrupt and not to follow evil leaders. Aya 141-159
    2. Most leaders are misguiding and want worldly things in return
  5. Story of Lut عليه السلام
    1. He asked men of his nation are you approaching other men instead of your female mates. Aya 160-175
    2. He separates the deed from the doer. Focus on the evil deed. Do not label the people. The wisdom on how to preach is a matter different for different cultures. 
  6. Story of Shua’ib عليه السلام
    1. He warned his people to worship only Allāh and measure fairly. But they rejected him and said he is affected by magic and just a human like them so punishment came to them. Aya 176-189

Command To Preach Publicly

  1. Aya 192-194 verily this is the revelation of lord of the worlds that Jibraeel brought down upon your heart that you may be of the Warner’s. In a clear Arabic. 
  2. This is where the prophet ﷺ went public and called his family members. Aya 214 “ And warn your closest kindred.”

Good and Evil Among Poets

  1. The poets are followed by the lost. Don’t you see they wander in every valley and they say what they do not do. Aya 224-226. 
  2. Generally speaking the entertainment industry has no higher purpose. They wander blindly and just distract people. These things can
    1. Waste time
    2. Harden the heart
    3. Have hypocrisy 
  3. The Arts and Entertainment industry can be used but only for benefit of Islam and Akhira.
  4. Except for those who believe and do good deeds and remember Allāh frequently and defend (the Muslims) after they have been wronged. And those who have wronged are going to know what (kind of) return they will be returned. Aya 227
The Quran and the Sunnah are the best gifts and let the believers rejoice for having them. Nothing in the Universe is better than these two gifts of Allah.
