Quran Summary by Juz

Here you will find a summary of the quran divided into 30 parts (or 30 Juz as it is called in arabic). These are my notes based on video lectures offered by Shiekh Dr. Yasir Qadhi in Ramadan 2020

Juz 23

Suras 36. Ya Seen, 37. As Saffat, 38. Sad

Part 22

36 Ya Seen

Makki – 83 Ayaat – Proof of Hereafter

  1. Called the heart of the Qur’an in weak Ahadith
  2. Prophet ﷺ told us to recite people who are on their death bed (because this chapter deals with the afterlife). Sahih.

Power of Qur’an – A Miracle

  1. Allah has placed barrier in-front and behind those who reject the Quran.
  2. While prophet ﷺ was surrounded by enemies he read beginning portion of this surah and he ﷺ was protected Aya 9. And We have put before them a barrier and behind them a barrier and covered them, so they do not see.

The Resurrection – Footsteps

  1. Aya 12 we shall indeed revive the dead. And we will write down everything that they have forwarded and their footsteps and legacies in a clear book prescribed.
  2. A tribe of Bani Salama wanted to move from outside to madina and Prophet ﷺ told them every door step is counted and they are rewarded for coming from outside for sake of Allah for salah.

Three Messengers who brought Message

  1. At the time of Christians in a town of Antioch where messengers were sent by Isa عليه السلام either during or after his time. They were rejected. Only one man accepted Islam from them. He made excellent arguments for Islam and told them to only worship Allāh.
  2. The people of the town killed him and Allah placed him in Jannah
  3. He cared for his people. V.26. It was said, “Enter Paradise.” He said, “I wish my people could know v.27. Of how my Lord has forgiven me and placed me among the honored.”
  4. Even after he was killed by them he still cared about his people when entering Jannah.
  5. Aya 30 angels and creation are saying woe to humans no messenger comes to them except they ridicule them.
  6. Creation expresses pity on humanity for being so stubborn

Miracles from Allah

  1. Dead land turns into life and crops by Allāh. Aya 33-36
    1. Everything is created in Pairs
    2. Earth Land
    3. Even things which in pairs which we do not understand.
  2. The night and the day, sun and the moon. Aya 37-40
  3. Humans given power over other creation Aya 41-43.
  4. Aya 71 Do they not see that We have created for them from what Our hands have made, grazing livestock, and [then] they are their owners
  5. They are subdued. Some they ride, some they eat and other benefits. Will they not give thanks. Aya 71-74
  6. Even though animals are stronger and heavier than is, Allah has subdued them to us
  7. Doesn’t mankind see that he is made from a despised fluid and yet he has the audacity to challenge Us. And he starts arguing with us and forgets his own creation. He asks who will bring the dead back after decayed. Aya 77-79.
  8. The fuel we use comes from trees that Allāh created. Aya 80
  9. No proof will satisfy them. They will say even on miracles that they are magic.

Humans Disbelieve

  1. People turning away from signs of Allah even after miracles come to them. When they are reminded the rejectors say why should we feed those who Allāh could directly feed. Aya 44-4
  2. The believer wants to be an instrument of spreading Allahs mercy and feed and help others. The disbelievers on the other hand are arrogant and don’t want to help anyone.
  3. Difference between Iman and Kufr (Humility vs Arrogance). Adam (blame self) vs Iblis (blame others).

Day of Judgement

  1. Aya 51 And the Horn will be blown; and at once from the graves to their Lord they will hasten.
  2. The reaction of people will
  3. Be who has resurrected us from resting sleep. Aya 52
  4. Believers will say this was the promise which was denied by the disbelievers
  5. Aya 55 onwards description of people of jannah and Jahannum
  6. People of Jannah will be busy in entertainment on that day. In shades, reclining on beautiful couches and all kinds fo fruits and whatever they desire. Aya 55-57.
  7. They will never be bored.
  8. The greatest pleasure is hearing speech of Allah. Aya 58 (And) “Peace,” a word from a Merciful Lord.
  9. In other parts of the Quran seeing face of Allah is also mentioned
  10. In next ayaat the people of hellfire also described

37 As Saffat (Rows of Angels Lining Up)

Early Makki – 182 Ayaat – Demonstrate Power Of Allāh through Creation and Prophets

  1. When we pray we line up in rows like angels as instructed by Prophet ﷺ.
  2. Aya 1 By those (angels) lined up in rows

Reality of Angels & Tauheed

  1. Quraish had misconceptions about angels being female and daughters of Allah. These are clarified. Also misconception about jinns and relationship with Allāh.
  2. Aya 150. Or did We create the angels as females while they were witnesses?”
  3. Aya 158 And they have made (i.e., claimed) between Him and the jinn a lineage, but the jinn have already known that they [who made such claims] will be brought (to punishment)
  4. Aya 164 (The angels say), “There is not among us any except that he has a known position.
  5. Angels never get tired of worship and do not have mates, or eat or drink.

Skies beautified by Stars

  1. Aya 6 Indeed We have adorned the nearest heaven with an adornment of stars.

Conversation People of Jannah & Jahannum

  1. People of Jannah will remember that i had an acquaintance (Qarin) and he used to deny the message. This person will be shown that Qarin in Hellfire. The person of Jannah will say you tried to mislead me with doubts but by the favour of Allāh i habe reached Jannah. Aya 50-62.
  2. In Jannah we will have perfect memories and remember everything from dunya.

Prophet Stories

  1. Nuh عليه السلام
    1. Allah saved him and his family from calamity. Aya 75-82
  2. Ibrahim عليه السلام
    1. He came to Allāh with qalbin Saleem. (Sound/pure heart) Aya 83-84
    2. When he destroyed the idols. Aya 85-99
    3. Allah granted him Ismail عليه السلام Aya 100-101
  3. Ismael عليه السلام and Ishaq عليه السلام
    1. Dreams about sacrificing came to Ibrahim and he asked his son Ismail and Ismail عليه السلام said do what your lord has asked. They were obedient and his body was replaced by an animal. Also mention of his righteous son Ishaq. Aya 102-113
  4. Musa and Harun عليه السلام
    1. Blessings given to them and book. Aya 114-122. Musa AS and Haroon AS.
  5. Yunus عليه السلام
    1. Lots were cast on the boat due to bad luck. The whale swallows Yunus عليه السلام. Were it not for the fact that Yunus made tasbih of Allah he would have remained in the stomach of Whale until day of judgement. Aya 141.Yunus AS.
    2. We should remember the Dua Of Yunus عليه السلام in calamity.

Glory and Praise of Allah

  1. Subhan: Allah is far far above whatever wrong people ascribe to him. Aya 159, 180
  2. Ans peace is upon the messengers Aya 181
  3. And all praise is due to Allāh the lord of the world Aya 182.

38 Sad (The letter ‘Saad’)

Makki – 88 Ayaat – Stories of Prophets

  1. Begins with letter sad. Includes stories of prophets with morals and tests

Rejection of Pagans

  1. Arrogance of pagans in rejecting the message
  2. Aya 4. And they wonder that there has come to them a warner (i.e., Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ)) from among themselves. And the disbelievers say, “This is a magician and a liar
  3. They could not accept the truth because of their customs and cultures. All humans have this disease whatever we know around us and don’t accept the truth.

Story of Prophets and Allah’s Help

  1. Short mentions of Nuh, Aad, Thamud, Firaun
  2. Dawud عليه السلام
    1. Incident when two people jumped into his private area and asked for judgement.
    2. One interpretation is that these were angels sent for test and one person seems like underdog and you have sympathy and Dawud judges in his favor and they disappeared. This was a test and he did not pass it because he was hasty in listening to one side and pronounced judgement without hearing other side. He repented in sajda and Allāh commanded him to make judgement without personal bias and do it fairly. Aya 22- 26
  3. Suleiman عليه السلام
    1. The blessings given to Suleman عليه السلام he was tending to horses and got engrossed and did not worship how Allāh deserves and then repented. Aya 30-33
    2. Worldly things should not distract us from worshipping Allah.
    3. Suleman عليه السلام was tested by a body on his Throne. He once left his throne on an expedition and some jinn pretended to be him in his throne until Suleman returned and expelled the Jinn. Aya 34-40
    4. Even the best of people are tested by Allāh. Suleiman عليه السلام always made Dua to Allah for support.
  4. Ayyub عليه السلام
    1. When Ayub was sick he made Dua. A river came and this healed him. He had a vow with his wife. At some point his wife did something disappointing and he promised to discipline her. He regretted the oath so Allāh told him to take bunch of hay and tap it on her. Vow could be fulfilled. Aya 41- 44
    2. Allah does not want to cause hardship
  5. Adam عليه السلام and iblees
    1. How Allāh honored Adam عليه السلام. Allah asked iblis why he did not bow to Adam who Allāh fashioned with his own hands. Aya 71-85.

Disputation between People of Jahannam

  1. No greetings or welcome to you.
  2. Each one curses each other between the followers and leaders Aya 60-64

Quran as a reminder for the worlds

  1. You will see how true all of this was after a short while. Aya 87-88
The Quran and the Sunnah are the best gifts and let the believers rejoice for having them. Nothing in the Universe is better than these two gifts of Allah.
