Here you will find a summary of the quran divided into 30 parts (or 30 Juz as it is called in arabic). These are my notes based on video lectures offered by Shiekh Dr. Yasir Qadhi in Ramadan 2020

Part 13

15 Al Hijr (People of the Mountains)

Mid Makki – 99 Ayaat

  1. Main Theme is fate of disbelievers in dunya and akhira 
  2. Muqatuaat Alif Laam Raa. Disjointed letters. They should bring attention. Next section always something to do with the Quran. Quran is the speech of Allah. 
  3. Aya 2 these are the verses of the book making things clear. They day will surely come certainly that those rejected will wish they were Muslim
  4. Aya 3 let them enjoy they will find out in time

Allah Potects the Quran – A Miracle 

  1. Aya 9 Surely we we have sent down this remembrance and we will protect it. 
  2. If you do not believe in miracles around or of Quran they will not believe. 
  3. Aya 14-15 even if doors of heaven are open they would say our eyes are hallucinating and we are under magic. 
  4. Aya 24 Allah knows those who are in front rows and those who want to be in the back rows. 

Adam and Iblis – Iblis Helpless with Sincere Believers 

  1. Every repetition of a story brings new value 
  2. Aya 40 Iblis confesses he cannot reach the chosen and sincere servants of Allah. 
  3. Allah also announced that his sincere slaves will be protected from Shaytaan. Those who do not follow him. 
  4. Aya 49-50 Allāh announces that I am the ghafoor and Rahim and tel them my punishment is a painful punishment. 

Every Instinct Has Halal Outlet 

  1. Story of Ibrahim and how the Angels visited him to give glad tidings of son and how they were going to go punish nation of Lut عليه السلام 
  2. Story of Lut when people come after his guests who were guests. 
  3. Aya 72 Allāh promises by life of the Prophet ﷺ certainly they are wondering blindly intoxicated in their lust. 
  4. Story of Shuaib عليه السلام 
  5. Story of Saleh – Nation of the Hijr

Fatiha 7 oft Repeated 

  1. End Surah reminds of gift of (Fatiha)the 7 oft repeated and the Quran. 

Advice for Prophet ﷺ on Dealing 

  1. Forgive the people who irritate you 
  2. Aya 88 Lowering your wings to believers. Be merciful and Gentle to believers. 
  3. We are sufficient for you to protect you against those who mock you

Advice in Difficulty 

  1. Aya 97 We are well aware that your heart is hurt because of what they say. 
  2. Aya 98 Glorify your lord, praise your lord, do Sajda to your lord 
  3. Aya 99 and worship your lord until certainty (death) comes 
  4. Do not ask for pity from mortals. Always turn to Allāh in difficulty 

16 An Nahl (The Bee)

Makki – 126 Ayaat – Blessings 

  1. Surah an-Niam (Surah of Blessings)
  2. List of blessings of Allah. 
  3. Blessing of Quran, creation of man from a drop, cattle, animals we use as vehicle (Aya 7). 
  4. Aya 17 Then is He who creates like the one who does not create? Don’t you think
  5. Aya 18 if you tried to count the blessing of Allah , you will not be able to. And Allāh is Ghafoor and Rahim. 
  6. Aya 65-81 Many Blessings mentioned. Milk from Cattle is a sign. Allah causes it to flow between blood and filth. Allah created in surplus so humans can only consume. 

Honey and Bees

  1. Aya 68 And your Rabb inspired to the Bee Take yourself among the mountains, trees and in what men built set up your hives. 
  2. From the belly of the bee comes a liquid of diverse colours in it is cure for people. 

Fate of the people who Reject the Prophet ﷺ – Angel 

  1. Aya 22-30 Angel of death will punish them. What they will be told on day of judgement and entered into Hell
  2. Their souls will leave like a wet wool being dragged through an iron comb. 

Fate of believers 

  1. Aya 30-32 How Angels will say Salam to the righteous when they are leaving their bodies. And enter Jannah
  2. Their souls leave the body like water leaving a jug. 

Battle between Prophets and Rejectors

  1. Aya 36 Every single nation was sent prophet with same message. Worship Allāh and avoid all which is evil
  2. Aya 40 we have sent before you so many men we have inspired them.

People of Arabia – Birth of Daughters

  1. If a girl was born arabs would kill female children. They felt they had no value and would have to spend money on them and on marriage dowry. 
  2. Islam changed this by reversing and 
  3. Arabs would be upset at birth of a girl
  4. Aya 57 They accuse Allāh of having daughters (they wrongly thought that false idols are daughters of God ) and they negate those daughters from themselves and prefer another gender for themselves 
  5. Aya 58 When one of them is given the good news of a female. His face becomes cloudy and dark and he become chocked with grief
  6. Aya 59 He hides himself from people because of a bad news. Should he keep her in humiliation or kick her and kill her. What an evil choice. 
  7. Islam praises having girls. Prophet ﷺ said whoever has daughters and treats them kindly until marriage will be a shield between them and Hellfire. 

Blessing of Family, Home and Animals 

  1. Aya 72 Allāh has gifted you from among you spouses and from spouses children and grandchildren. And he has given you so many good things. Will you then believe in falsehood and reject the favours of Allah. 
  2. Aya 78 Allah has brought you out of womb of the mothers. You knew nothing and he gave you hearing eyesight and intellect so you may be thankful. 
  3. Aya 80 blessing of home/tent and clothing from animals for warmth and as armour. 
  4. Treatment of Animals must be followed with regards to Sharia. We treat them kindly and humanely. 
  5. To say something against eating animals one is challenging the laws of Allah. 

Speak Truth on Behalf Of Allāh 

  1. Aya 116 and do not say about what your tongues assert of untruth “This is Halal and this is Haram” to invent falsehood about Allāh. Indeed those who invent falsehood about Allāh will not succeed. 
  2. Never make anything halal or haram based on personal opinion. This is extremely dangerous. 

Blessings Mentioned – Recognise & be Thankful 

  1. Aya 82 If they turn away your job is only to communicate
  2. Aya 83 They recognise the blessing of Allāh then they still deny it. Most of them are ungrateful. 

Jumma Khutba Aya – Do Good, Forbid Evil

  1. Aya 90 Allāh commands three things and forbids three things. Allah commands that you
    1. treat others with justice 
    2. Or treat with Ihsan (good conduct)
    3. Be generous to your family 
  2. Allah forbids
    1. Immorality
    2. Bad deeds (bad conduct) 
    3. Oppression
  3. He advices you so you pay heed 

Ibrahim عليه السلام Role Model

  1. Umma means he was a role model. 
  2. Aya 120 verily Ibrahim was a one man nation (Umma).
    1. He worshipped Allāh alone
    2. Turned away from idols
    3. He was grateful for his blessings 
  3. Prophet ﷺ would thank Allah for every sip of water. 

Preach Gracefully 

  1. Aya 125 it is the job of every single Muslim to be a role model to non Muslims around him. At some level we must positively impact non Muslims around you. 
  2. All of you call to the way of your lord
    1. With Wisdom (Hikma)
    2. From the Heart / Eloquently (Mu’idha)
    3. Debate in the best manner (wajadilhum). Debate should only be done by knowledgeable and for the sake of Dawa not to belittle anyone. 
The Quran and the Sunnah are the best gifts and let the believers rejoice for having them. Nothing in the Universe is better than these two gifts of Allah.
