17 Al Isra / Bani Israel (Night Journey)
Early Makki – 111 Ayaat
- Aya 1 Exalted is he who took his slave by night from al haram to masjid al Aqsa whose surroundings are blessed to show him Our signs. Indeed He is the hearing the seeing.
- Sanctity of holy land.
- Bani Israel and their fate. They would be blessed as long they kept covenant
Miracle of Quran
- Aya 9-10 This Quran it guides to that which is the best (most upright). And it’s giving good tidings to the believers. As for those who do not believe in hereafter we have made for them a painful punishment
- Signs of night and day.
- Challenges arguments of the Mushriqeen
- Aya 88 Say if Mankind and jinn gathered to produce the like of this Quran they could not produce the like of it, even if they were to each other assistants.
- Aya 89 and We have certainly diversified for the people in this Quran from every kind of example but most of the people refused (anything) except disbelief.
- Aya 105 we have revealed this book with truth and this books contains the truth.
Book of Deeds – Desire Dunya vs Akhira
- Everyone will bring own book which is around neck in grave. Aya 13 read.l your book. Today you are enough as witness against yourself
- Aya 18 Whoever wants the fleeting pleasure of dunya we will give him and then take him into Jahanum.
- Aya 19 Whoever desires the hereafter does good deeds and believes their effort will be appreciated.
- Aya 20 Both We give these and those. We have preferred some over others and hereafter really has the greatness in ranks.
Summary of Religion – 20 Commandments.
- Aya 22 onwards none worshipped
- None worshipped but Allah
- Away from adultery
- Do not kill
- Do not say Uff (sound) to the parents. Speak to them kind words. And so on….
Story of Iblis and Adam
- Aya 64 Shaytaan will use whatever he can to manipulate his followers using wealth and children as means of misguiding. Shaytaan promises delusion.
- Commentators use this Aya and say voice of Shaytaan is Music. The industry of music and its instruments are purely from Shaytaan
Blessings of Allah on Humans
- Aya 70 And We have certainly honored the children of Adam عليه السلام and carried them on the land and see and preferred them over many other of the creations we have created with (definite) preference.
Prophet ﷺ Night Prayer – Comfort with Musa Story
- Prophet ﷺ is comforted by story of Musa عليه السلام.
- Musa had 9 miracles and was still rejected.
- Aya 79 At the middle of night pray night prayer it is possible that your lord grants you highest station (maqam al Mahmoud) on day of judgement.
- VIP in Jannah Are those who pray Tahajjud
Call Allāh with Beautiful Names
- Aya 110 We should call Allāh with any of his beautiful names. To Allah belongs all majestic names.
- Aya 111 Say all praises are to Allah and glorify him a great glorification.
18 Al Kahf (The Cave)
Early Makki – 110 Ayaat
- Recite every Friday to have a light shining until next Friday.
- Memorise first 10 Ayaat for protection from Dajjal.
Four Stories – Protection
- Following four Fitnas are mentioned
- Fitna of Iman – people of cave shelter in cave
- Fitna of Maal – Man with two gardens
- Fitna of Ilm – Musa / Al Khidr
- Fitna of Quwa (Power) – Dhalqarnain
- Entering the cave will protect from these Fitnas.
People of the Cave
- Seven sleepers of the cave. Most likely they were true Christians and others were pagans.
- Locations and Names are not necessary. We should get the moral.
- They slept 300 years and when they came back people had converted.
- Religiosity comes with some difficulty in society
- Obligatory to Migrate if
- Physical Persecution : Forced to do haram or unable to physically worship
- Have the Means (political and financial).
- Don’t speak without knowledge and Do not speak about things which are useless e.g. their numbers.
- Persecution should never be done. Aya 29 the truth is from Allāh whoever believes believe and whoever wants to reject can reject. Punishment is for the disbelievers.
Etiquettes of speech – Say انشاءاللہ
- We should be careful of very word that we say. And always associate power And might to Allāh.
- One Sahaba taught us to monitor what we say independent to other than Allāh. E.g saying doctor cured is wrong, Allāh cured me via the medicine and doctor.
Man with Two Gardens
- Aya 32-45
- Dangers of Pride and self conceit. Aya 35 When he enters his garden he thought he is all high and mighty and in reality he is doing injustice to himself.
- Blindness to the truth. Aya 36 I don’t think there shall be a day of judgement. This is last forever.
- He thought Wealth in Dunya means Allāh is happy. Aya 36 and I do not think the Hour will occur. And even if I go back to Allāh I will find something even better with Allāh.
- The companion told him ascribe blessings to Allah without any power of my own. His wealth got destroyed and he repented.
- We must be Thankful to Allāh. Not being thankful to Allāh is the first step to kufr.
Book of Deeds – Very Detailed
- Aya 49 And the records will be placed and criminals will be fearful of what is in it they will say not a single deed large or small is left out.
- Book of deeds also mentioned in Surah Al Isra.
Dunya is Insignificant – Focus on Akhira
- Give them example of if this world it’s like rain water comes down plants absorb it and then they become debri
- Aya 46 wealth and children are beauty of this world. But the good deeds that last forever (like saying subhan Allāh) are better for Akhira and ones hope.
Musa and Khidr
- Aya 60-80
- Khidr is a mortal and likely a prophet sent to another nation.
- Khidr had knowledge and Musa had knowledge
- Musa had the humility to go and learn from another. Always be eager to learn something new.
- Temporary calamity is a blessing if you have faith. Fisherman boat.
- If Allāh takes something away, he will always replace it with something better if you are patient. Story of the boy who was killed.
- Allah knows when to give what you need. Story of the orphans.
Dhulqarnain – Yajooj Majooj
- Aya 83-98
- Dhulqarnain trapped the evil Yajooj and Majooj. He was a Just leader and Allāh blessed him
Life is a Test
- Everyone is tested in different ways.
- Follow the path of the Prophets who were also persecuted for their religion.
- Wealth is the greatest test of our Ummah
Blessings of Believers
- Aya 107 indeed those who have believed and done righteous deeds. They will have gardens of paradise as a lodging.
- Aya 108 wherein they abide eternally and will not desire transfer from it.
Allah’s Knowledge Infinite – Worship only Him
- Aya 109 Say “if the ocean were ink for writing the words of Allāh the sea would be exhausted before the words of Allah were exhausted even if We brought the like of it as a supplement.“
- Knowledge and Speech of Allāh is infinite
- Aya 110 say “I am but a human like all of you. I have been inspired that your God is one. Whoever wants to meet Allāh (and be happy at the meeting) let him do good deeds and let him not associate any partner with Allāh عزّ وجلّ.
- Tauheed, Risala, Akhira and follow Shariya (do good deeds and stay away from evil)
