Here you will find a summary of the quran divided into 30 parts (or 30 Juz as it is called in arabic). These are my notes based on video lectures offered by Shiekh Dr. Yasir Qadhi in Ramadan 2020

Juz 22

Suras 33. Al Ahzab, 34. Saba, 35. Fatir

Part 21

33 Al Ahzab (The Clans/ Confederate Armies)

Madani – 73 Ayaat – Battle of Trench

  1. 5th year of Hijra
  2. The opposition army against Muslims, Ahzab name of the largest army in Arab history which came against Muslims (10,000)
  3. Battle of Trench and one month of siege. Allah eventually sent a thunderstorm in the desert sand and the wind took everything.

Miracle of Help from Allāh – Battle of Ahzab

  1. Aya 9 O you who have believed, remember the favor of Allah upon you when armies came to (attack) you and We sent upon them a wind and armies [of angels] you did not see. And ever is Allah, of what you do, Seeing.
  2. They came from above and below and hearts came to the throat. People started questioning and people were shaken to the core.
  3. Allah praises the Muslims

Allah criticize the hypocrites

  1. Aya 13 and when a group of hypocrites said people of Yathrib you are not going to win against this and flee and group amongst them tried to make an excuse they said our houses are exposed. Allah says they were lying and they only wanted to run away.
  2. Aya 14. And if they had been entered upon from all its (surrounding) regions and fitnah (i.e., disbelief) had been demanded of them, they would have done it and not hesitated over it except briefly.
  3. They are accursed where ever they go. It’s a sad state of affairs. Aya 57-60.

The Believers

  1. Aya 22 And when the believers saw the companies, they said, “This is what Allah and His Messenger had promised us, and Allah and His Messenger spoke the truth.” And it increased them only in faith and acceptance.
  2. At times of stress and difficulty the Iman of believers go up.
  3. Aya 23 Among the believers are men true to what they promised Allah. Among them is he who has fulfilled his vow [to the death], and among them is he who awaits (his chance). And they did not alter [the terms of their commitment] by any alteration
  4. A Mumin always fulfil his promise to Allah

Supreme Command is from Allah

  1. Aya 36. It is not (befitting) for a believing man or a believing woman, when Allah and His Messenger have decided a matter, that they should (thereafter) have any choice about their affair. And whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger has certainly strayed into clear error.
  2. Once Allāh and his Messenger ﷺ have decided something we hear and we obey
  3. The Mumin can commit sins but they know it’s wrong and they turn to Allah

Allah is Enough for the Mumin

  1. The help of Allah Aya 25. And Allah repelled those who disbelieved, in their rage, not having obtained any good. And sufficient was Allah for the believers in battle, and ever is Allah Powerful and Exalted in Might.

Prophet ﷺ and His Wives

  1. As the situation of our Prophet ﷺ became stable and wealthy, some wives of the prophet ﷺ asked for better life (which is completely permissible in Islam to live life based on your halal means)
  2. The Prophet ﷺ is a role model for us and we need to love our Prophet ﷺ and our mothers and find lessons in these minor family disputes
  3. Prophet ﷺ, stayed away from his family and slept for one month in the Masjid
  4. Allah replied Aya 28-29. O Prophet, say to your wives, “If you should desire the worldly life and its adornment, then come, I will provide for you and give you a gracious release Aya 29. But if you should desire Allah and His Messenger and the home of the Hereafter – then indeed, Allah has prepared for the doers of good among you a great reward.”
  5. All our mothers stayed with the Prophet ﷺ. They will get extra reward.

Special Status of Our Mother’s

  1. Aya 32 O wives of the Prophet ﷺ, you are not like anyone among women. If you fear Allah, then do not be soft in speech [to men],lest he in whose heart is disease should covet, but speak with appropriate speech.
  2. If our mothers are asked to speak in a graceful and non attracting manner, we should pay extra attention as the remainder of the Umma.
  3. All brothers and sisters should be very careful with their interaction with opposite gender
  4. All our mothers are Ahl al bayt and if anyone says they are not they have not clearly understood the Quran

Respect and Value of Ahl al Bayt (Prophets ﷺ household)

  1. Our Mothers are told to remain in homes and not display themselves like times of ignorance. Establish prayer and zakah and obey Allah and his Messenger ﷺ. Aya 33

Feminine Modest Clothing

  1. Aya 59. O Prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to bring down over themselves (part) of their outer garments. That is more suitable that they will be known (recognised as virtuous ladies) and not be abused. And ever is Allah Forgiving and Merciful.
  2. Feminine modesty requires lose garment as Jilbab (preferably extra layer) so that they are not intimidated or harassed.
  3. There is no justification for any man to act indecently if dressing is inappropriate but still the ladies need to do their part as Allāh instructs. We should take precaution as commanded by Allāh. Men also have the obligation to guard their vision

Gender Equity

  1. Men and Women are spiritually equal in the sight of Allah. Generally men and women are different physically and in their roles in society. However in terms of spirituality which actually matters they are equal.
  2. Aya 35 Indeed, the Muslim men and Muslim women, the believing men and believing women, the obedient men and obedient women, the truthful men and truthful women, the patient men and patient women, the humble men and humble women, the charitable men and charitable women, the fasting men and fasting women, the men who guard their private parts and the women who do so, and the men who remember Allah often and the women who do so – for them Allah has prepared forgiveness and a great reward.

Marriage With Zaynab Bint Jash

  1. Our mother was married to Zaid Ibn Haritha رضي الله عنه who was the adopted son of Prophet ﷺ.
  2. In Aya 4 Allāh forbade changing the name of the father of an orphan. (To claim that a child is biologically your own). Islam does not forbid adoption, we are highly encouraged to take care of and bring to our house
  3. Our mother Aisha said that if the Prophet ﷺ would have hidden something he would have hidden these Ayat had he not been a true Prophet ﷺ.
  4. After Zaynab and Zaid divorces Allah made the marriage of our mother Zaynab and Prophet ﷺ in the Quran. Aya 37
  5. Taking someone as son, present at the time of jahiliyya (not adoption) Aya 4.
  6. Aya 5. Call them by [the names of] their fathers; it is more just in the sight of Allah. But if you do not know their fathers – then they are [still] your brothers in religion and those entrusted to you. And there is no blame upon you for that in which you have erred but [only for] what your hearts intended. And ever is Allah Forgiving and Merciful.

Prophet ﷺ is not Father of any Man

  1. Sub motive of this surah is status of our prophet ﷺ. Aya 40. Muhammad is not the father of [any] one of your men, but (he is) the Messenger of Allah and seal (i.e., last) of the prophets. And ever is Allah, of all things, Knowing.
  2. Arabs used to think not having son is a bad thing, in this Aya Allāh made his status better than any other man as the final prophet and messenger.

Khutba Ayaat

  1. Aya 41-onwards Allah commands the believers.
  2. This verse is recited in every kuthbah, lecture Aya 56. Indeed, Allah confers blessing upon the Prophet, and His angels [ask Him to do so]. O you who have believed, ask (Allah to confer) blessing upon him and ask [Allah to grant him] peace.
  3. The concept of sending salat and salam on our Prophet ﷺ

Day of Judgment Disbelievers against Leaders

  1. People who followed wrongdoers will ask Allāh to give them double punishment. Aya 67-68

Trust Given to Humans

  1. Allah has given everything for us as a trust (amaanah). It was offered to heavens, earth and mountains and they did not take it. Man was foolish to take it.
  2. Amanah is “takleef”: Legal responsibility.
    1. Us being the leader of creation
    2. revelation coming to us
    3. Cognisant and aware
    4. Ability to Do good and goto paradise and not doing good will lead to punishment
  3. All Humans were offered and we accepted and we don’t remember it
  4. Aya 72 Indeed, we offered the Trust (The acceptance of obligations and obedience to Allah.) to the heavens and the earth and the mountains, and they declined to bear it and feared it; but man [undertook to] bear it. Indeed, he was unjust and ignorant.

34 Saba (Sheba)

Mid Makki – 54 Ayaat – Power of Allah by Proving Resurrection

  1. Saba is the dynasty of Queen of Sheba (bilquees). It was in Yemen and the greatest civilisation of that time. Around B.C 2000
  2. There was a massive river and this community built a massive dam. The entire story at time of the dam is few generations after the time of Suleman عليه السلام ana Queen Bilqis
  3. Later the dam collapsed and Allah mentioned it in the Qur’an

Judgement Day Will Come

  1. Aya 1 begins by praising Allah
  2. Aya 3. But those who disbelieve say, “The Hour will not come to us.” Say, “Yes, by my Lord, it will surely come to you. (Allah is) the Knower of the unseen.” Not absent from Him is an atom’s weight within the heavens or within the earth or (what is) smaller than that or greater, except that it is in a clear register
  3. Aya 7. But those who disbelieve say, “Shall we direct you to a man who will inform you (that) when you have disintegrated in complete disintegration, you will (then) be (recreated) in a new creation?

The Blessings Given to Dawud & Suleman

  1. Dawud praised Allah with mountains and birds. He also had capability to make armour from iron. Aya 10-11
  2. Suleiman عليه السلام had control on winds and jinn. And the Jinn did. labor work and construction. Aya 12-13
  3. Real Thankfulness is in one’s Action

Death of Suleman عليه السلام

  1. Aya 14. And when We decreed for him (i.e., Solomon) death, nothing indicated to them (i.e., the jinn) his death except a creature of the earth eating his staff. But when he fell, it became clear to the jinn that if they had known the unseen, they would not have remained in humiliating punishment.
  2. Key message is that Jinn do not have knowledge of unseen

Story of People of Saba and Allah’s Blessings

  1. They had gardens and safety and towns between distances to travel easily and safety. Aya 17- onwards
  2. They asked for even more blessings for boasting
  3. Allah says We made them stories and We tore them up in every single tearing

Evil Leaders & Followers Argumentation

  1. The followers would say to the leaders if not for you we would have had been believers. Aya 31
  2. The leaders will say did we avert you, rather you yourselves were criminals. Aya 32
  3. The followers will say it was your conspiracy night and day to make us follow you and attribute equals to Allāh. They will all be punished by Allah. Aya 33

Challenge to Non-Muslims – Check whether Tauheed and Quran are the Truth

  1. Aya 46. Say, “I only advise you of one (thing) – that you stand up for Allah, (seeking truth) in groups or individually, and then give thought.” There is not in your companion any madness. He is only a warner to you before a severe punishment.
  2. We should challenge the non Muslims to think about the message of Islam.
    1. Ask yourself is this true or not?

35 Fatir (Originator)

Mid Makki – 45 Ayaat – Praise of Allah & His Blessings

  1. Speech of Allah in Quran is so beautiful. It follows its own order and perspectives keep shifting and no human can speak like this, yet it is so meaningful and full of lessons

Blessings of Allah

  1. Allah has given wings to angels some few some many. (To Jibraeel عليه السلام Allah gave over 600 wings) Aya 1.
  2. Aya 2. Whatever Allah grants to people of Rahma – none can withhold it; and whatever He withholds – none can release it thereafter. And He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.

The Promise of Allah

  1. Aya 5. O mankind, indeed the promise of Allah is truth, so let not the worldly life delude you and be not deceived about Allah by the grand Deceiver (i.e., Satan)
  2. Aya 6. Indeed, Satan is an enemy to you; so take him as an enemy. He only invites his party to be among the companions of the Blaze.
  3. Aya 10 Whoever desires Izza (Power, Honor and Glory), all of Izza belongs to Allah. To Him ascends good speech and righteous work raises it. Aya continues…

Others Beside Allah

  1. Aya 14. If you invoke them, they do not hear your supplication; and if they heard, they would not respond to you. And on the Day of Resurrection they will deny your association. And none can inform you like (one) Acquainted (with all matters)

Allah is Ghani – We are Fuqara

  1. Aya 15. O mankind, you are those in need of Allah (Fuqara), while Allah is the Free of need, the Praiseworthy

The Knowledgable Truly Fear Allāh

  1. Aya 28. And among people and moving creatures and grazing livestock are various colors similarly. Only those fear Allah, from among His servants, who have knowledge. Indeed, Allah is Exalted in Might and Forgiving.

3 Types of Muslims (Chosen to Inherit Quran)

  1. Three categories of Muslims mentioned who are chosen by Allah to inherit Quran. Aya 32-35.
  2. These categories also mentioned in Sura Waqaih and Ar-Rahman
    1. he who wrongs himself (i.e. commits sins)
    2. and among them is he who is moderate
    3. and among them is he who is foremost (Sabiqun) in good deeds by permission of Allah.
  3. All the category will enter heaven but in different ranks and possibly different times. Aya 33
  4. Response When They Enter Jannah
    1. Aya 34. And they will say, “Praise to Allah, who has removed from us (all) sorrow. Indeed, our Lord is Forgiving and Appreciative – Aya 35. He who has settled us in the home of duration (i.e. Paradise) out of His bounty. There touches us not in it any fatigue, and there touches us not in it weariness (of mind).”
    2. True happiness will come in Jannah. This dunya is full of trials and worries. After entering Jannah believers will say there are no worries anymore. May Allah make us of them ameen.

The Ultimate Mercy of Allah

  1. Aya 45. And if Allah were to impose blame on the people for what they have earned, He would not leave upon it (i.e., the earth) any creature. But He defers them for a specified term. And when their time comes, then indeed Allah has ever been, of His servants, seeing.
  2. If Allāh were to treat creation the way they deserved without mercy, the entire creation would be destroyed.
  3. The Rahma of Allah encompasses everything
The Quran and the Sunnah are the best gifts and let the believers rejoice for having them. Nothing in the Universe is better than these two gifts of Allah.
