Here you will find a summary of the quran divided into 30 parts (or 30 Juz as it is called in arabic). These are my notes based on video lectures offered by Shiekh Dr. Yasir Qadhi in Ramadan 2020

Juz 26

Part 25

46 Al Ahqaf (Sand Dunes)

Mid Makki – 35 Ayaat – Miracle of Quran

  1. Last of the havameem
  2. Sand dunes from people of Aad. Ancient Arabian tribes.
  3. They lived in Empty quarter of Arabia. It is still there.
  4. Main theme is the power and miracle of Quran. Magnificence of Allah.

Prophet ﷺ is Human and Final Messenger

  1. Prophet ﷺ is not only a human but also is the final of a series of long chain of prophets. He did not innovate something new
  2. Aya 9 Say, “I am not something original among the messengers, nor do I know what will be done with me or with you. I only follow that which is revealed to me, and I am not but a clear warner.”
  3. He does not know the future and he is a human only to give good tidings and a clear Warner

Goodness Towards Parents

  1. Key passage which gives the example of goodness towards parents
    1. Aya 15 And We have enjoined upon man, to his parents, good treatment. His mother carried him with hardship and gave birth to him with hardship, and his gestation and weaning (period) is thirty months. (He grows) until, when he reaches maturity and reaches (the age of) forty years, he says, “My Lord, enable me to be grateful for Your favor which You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents and to work righteousness of which You will approve and make righteous for me my offspring. Indeed, I have repented to You, and indeed, I am of the Muslims.”
    2. A beautiful du’a.
    3. Some scholars say that this Aya 15 a praise to Abu bakr رضي الله عنه
  2. Those who don’t respect his parents, disbelieve in Allah
    1. Aya 17 But one who says to his parents, “Uff to you; do you promise me that I will be brought forth (from the earth) when generations before me have already passed on (into oblivion)?” while they call to Allah for help (and to their son), “Woe to you! Believe! Indeed, the promise of Allah is truth.” But he says, “This is not but legends of the former peoples”
    2. Belief in science is more of a fable than belief in Allah and his book. Those who believe in science also believe in a lot of fluid and unseen theories without evidence
  3. This Aya also emphasize to take care of parents.

Ranks of Jannah

  1. Aya 19 And for all there are degrees (of reward and punishment) for what they have done, and (it is) so that He may fully compensate them for their deeds, and they will not be wronged.

People of Aad and Hud

  1. Aya 24 And when they saw it as a cloud approaching their valleys, they said, “This is a cloud bringing us rain!” Rather, it is that for which you were impatient: a wind, within it a painful punishment,
  2. Sometimes something we think as a blessing could be a punishment. Wealth of this world is not a sign of Allahs pleasure. In many cases the disbelievers will be given more of the world due to their rejection

Conversion of Jinn

  1. Aya 29 And (mention, O Muhammad), when We directed to you a few of the jinn, listening to the Quran. And when they attended it, they said, “Listen quietly.” And when it was concluded, they went back to their people as warners.

Reminder to be Patient Like the Prophets is Determination

  1. Nuh, Ibrahim, Musa, Isa and Prophet ﷺ are the prophets of ulul Azmi. (determination)
  2. Aya 35 So be patient, (O Muhammad), as were those of determination among the messengers and do not be impatient for them. It will be – on the Day they see that which they are promised – as though they had not remained (in the world) except an hour of a day. (This is) notification. And will (any) be destroyed except the defiantly disobedient people?

47 Muhammad (Final Prophet’s Name)

Mid Madani – 38 Ayaat – Rules of War

  1. Aya 1 Those who disbelieve and avert (people) from the way of Allah – He will waste their deeds. (Even if they have good deeds in dunya)
  2. Aya 2 And those who believe and do righteous deeds and believe in what has been sent down upon Muhammad – and it is the truth from their Lord – He will remove from them their misdeeds and amend their condition
  3. Four times our Prophet is mentioned by name in Quran

Work for the sake of Allah in all aspects

  1. Aya 7 O you who have believed, if you stand up for Allah, He will support you and plant firmly your feet. (You do one thing, Allāh will do much more)
  2. Aya 11 That is because Allah is the protector (Maula) of those who have believed and because the disbelievers have no protector (Maula)

Description of Jannah

  1. Aya 15 Is the description of Paradise, which the righteous are promised, wherein are rivers of water unaltered, rivers of milk the taste of which never changes, rivers of wine delicious to those who drink, and rivers of purified honey, in which they will have from all (kinds of) fruits and forgiveness from their Lord… (Are its inhabitants) like those who abide eternally in the Fire and are given to drink scalding water that will sever their intestines?

Criticising the Hypocrites

  1. Aya 24 Then do they not reflect upon the Quran, or are there locks upon (their) hearts?
  2. If you only turn to the Quran, hypocrisy will be cured. If you lack purpose in life read the Quran
  3. Each and everyone of us MUST read the Quran. You do not have to create rules based on it. If you don’t understand something ask people of knowledge
  4. Aya 33 O you who have believed, obey Allah and obey the Messenger and do not invalidate your deeds

Be Charitable For Yourself – Allah is Free of Need

  1. Aya 38 Here you are – those invited to spend in the cause of Allah – but among you are those who withhold (out of greed). And whoever withholds only withholds (benefit) from himself; and Allah is the Free of need, while you are the needy. And if you turn away (i.e., refuse), He will replace you with another people; then they will not be the likes of you.
  2. Allah is not demanding from us anything unreasonable.
  3. Allah will replace people if they do not do their job to be righteous

48 Al Fath (The Victory)

Madani – 29 Ayaat – Sulah Hudaibiya

  1. It was revealed when the prophet ﷺ was on his way back from the treaty of hudaybiyyah in the 6th year of hijra.

Hudaybiya was a victory

  1. Aya 1 indeed We have given you a clear conquest. Aya 2 That Allāh may for forgive you what preceded of you sin and what will follow and complete His favour upon you and guide you to a straight path
  2. Sometimes we see a loss but it is a victory from Allāh. Always trust the Qadr of Allah.

Baya Ridhwan

  1. Allah praised the people who took part in this treaty (baya Ridhwan). Aya 10, 18
  2. Hidden
  3. Allah helped the Muslims in way they didn’t even realise

Quraish Tribal Arrogance

  1. Allah criticised Quraish for pride in their tribe, culture in Aya 26
  2. Having a racial or cultural superiority is an act of Jahaliya (ignorance). Any excessive and prejudiced support for own cause is chauvinism and jahiliya
  3. Islam came to eliminate this type of jahiliya
  4. We are a Muslim first and last. Everything else is just an adjective.

Predict Conquest of Makkah

  1. Allah predicted conquest of Makkah Aya 27

Prophet ﷺ is Rasul

  1. Aya 29 Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah ; and those with him are forceful against the disbelievers, merciful among themselves. You see them bowing and prostrating (in prayer), seeking bounty from Allah and (His) pleasure. Their mark is on their faces from the trace of prostration. That is their description in the Torah. And their description in the Gospel is as a plant which produces its offshoots and strengthens them so they grow firm and stand upon their stalks, delighting the sowers – so that Allah may enrage by them the disbelievers. Allah has promised those who believe and do righteous deeds among them forgiveness and a great reward.
  2. Second kalima that Muhammad ﷺ is Rasul Allah mentioned in this sura in the Quran
  3. This sura was being recited by our Prophet ﷺ at conquest of Makkah

49 Al Hujurat (The Inner Apartments)

Late Madani – 18 verses – Chambers

  1. A group of Bedouins came to the prophet ﷺ and they shouted from the outside of the house. Allah mention that this is not a right approach to prophet ﷺ

Manners and Iman Linked Together

  1. To improve your manners the Surah begins with improving manners.
  2. Aya 1 O you who have believed, do not place your opinions (yourselves) before Allah and His Messenger but fear Allah. Indeed, Allah is Hearing and Knowing.
  3. Aya 2 O you who have believed, do not raise your voices above the voice of the Prophet or be loud to him in speech like the loudness of some of you to others, lest your deeds become worthless while you perceive not.
  4. Aya 3 indeed those who lower their voices before the Messenger of Allah ﷺ – they are the ones whose hearts Allāh has tested for righteousness l. For them is forgiveness and great reward

List of Commandments Manners and Etiquette

  1. Verify news. Don’t believe anything you hear. Always verify from the source and only listen to people you can trust. Aya 6
  2. Muslims should take an active role in reconciliation among two fighting Muslims. All Muslims are brothers Aya 9
  3. Being sarcastic or making fun of others is not the manners of a believer Aya 11
  4. Do not call each other offensive names. The receiver of the name decides if something is offensive or not Aya 11
  5. Don’t even make a face that belittles anyone. This is Kibr. Aya 11
  6. Do not make assumptions about others especially negative assumptions. Always give benefit of doubt Aya 12
  7. Do not backbite one another it is as of you are eating the flesh of your brother Aya 12

Equality in Islam

  1. Aya 13. O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one (recognise or get to know) another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous (Taqwa) of you. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted.
  2. No civilisation in the history of world had such an explicit message of equality. No culture is better than another and no person is better than another. We are not allowed to rank each other. Only Allāh will judge ranks

Allah Favors You With Islam – Not You Anyone By Accepting It

  1. Concludes by mentioning the Bedouins who were boasting that they have favoured the Prophet ﷺ by accepting Islam
  2. Aya 17. They consider it a favor to you that they have accepted Islam. Say, “Do not consider your Islam a favor to me. Rather, Allah has conferred favor upon you that He has guided you to the faith, if you should be truthful.”
  3. When we do a good deed towards someone never think you are doing a favour to them. Allah has actually favoured you by giving you the wealth, energy and a soft heart to help someone and bring good to others

Mufassallat : Suras which are short and break quickly starting from this point until Sura An Nas

50 Qaf (The Letter Qaaf)

Makki – 45 verse – Death & Resurrection

  1. Theme is to remind mankind of death and resurrection
  2. Prophet ﷺ gave Friday khutba on this entire sura multiple times. He never did this for any other sura.
  3. Proof of Resurrection
  4. Aya 15 Did We fail in the first creation? But they are in confusion over a new creation.

Allah is Closer

  1. Aya 16. And We have already created man and know what his soul whispers to him, and We are closer to him than (his) jugular vein.
  2. Aya 17 when the two receivers receive seated on the right and on the left.
  3. Aya 18 Man does not utter any word except that with him is an observer prepared (to record)

Reality of Death and Hell

  1. Aya 19 and the intoxication of death (Saqratul Maut) will bring the truth, that is what you were trying to avoid.
  2. Aya 30 On the Day We will say to Hell, “Have you been filled?” and it will say, “Are there some more,”
  3. Even Jahannum will be surprised how many people are entering

Jannah

  1. Aya 31 and Jannah will be brought near to the righteous, not far
  2. Aya 32 (it will be said) this is what you were promised for every returner (to Allāh) and keeper (of his covenant)
  3. Aya 33 who feared ar Rahman unseen and came with a heart returning (in repentance)
  4. Aya 34 Enter it in peace. This is the day of eternity

Advice to be in Constant Worship

  1. Aya 37. Indeed in that is a reminder for whoever has a heart or who listens while he is present (in mind).
  2. Aya 40 and (in part) of the night exalt Him and after prostration
  3. Advice to Prophet ﷺ to be in a state of constant worship

51 Adh-Dhariyat (The Dust Scattering Winds)

Makki – 69 Ayaat – Judgement Day

  1. Allah swears by winds that carry the loads and ships that judgement day is true
  2. Religiosity is together with rituals as well as other social behaviour

Description of Believers

  1. Aya 17-19 They used to Sleep little at night
  2. Before dawn they ask for forgiveness
  3. Of their wealth they used to give others
  4. A good believer is
    1. Good in worship towards Allah
    2. Good to others with wealth and compassion

Brief Prophet Stories

  1. Ibrahim عليه السلام and his guests
  2. Lut and Musa عليه السلام

See the Creation and Run to Allāh

  1. Aya 47 and the Heaven We constructed with strength and indeed we are (its) expanders
  2. Aya 48 and the earth We have spread out and excellent is the preparer
  3. Aya 48 and of all things We created two mates perhaps you will remember
  4. Aya 50 So flee to Allah. Indeed I am to you from Him a clear warner

Benefit of Reminder

  1. Aya 55 And remind, for indeed the reminder benefits the believers

Purpose of Creation – Allāh is Free of Need

  1. Aya 56 I did not create jinn and men except to worship me
  2. Aya 57 I do not want from them any provision, nor do I want them to feed me
  3. Aya 58 Indeed it is Allah who is the (continual) Provider, the firm possessor of strength
The Quran and the Sunnah are the best gifts and let the believers rejoice for having them. Nothing in the Universe is better than these two gifts of Allah.
